Each low income child care, pre-school and free child care has their own eligibility requirements, typically based upon income and your need of child care programs for low income families. These are thirteen low income child care assistance programs that offer day care programs for low income families for your childcare needs, not the actual childcare.

Call each free day care for low income and complete your enrollment in the program that offers the assistance you need, and then you will also need to complete an intake at the childcare center they are funding. In most cases a family is provided enrollment based upon need. The greater your need the more likely you are to receive childcare instead of being placed on a waiting list. For example, if you have a job beginning next week, then you have a greater need. Most programs will offer only a half day pre-school. A tip is to utilize two pre-schools consecutively to have a full day service for school or full time employment. We hope you find a daycare/child care that your family will enjoy.

All of our services are free. We offer emergency child care from 7am-7pm and as well as 24hour overnight care. Services are offered for up to 30days. We have 2 locations in North and South Sacramento, in some cases transportation may be provided."

Go to the Sacramento County website link for a detailed list of subsidized daycare eligibility requirements. Speak with your CalWORKS social worker for low income daycare eligibility and ask for a referral to the Child Care Processing Unit. You may also contact Child Action at (916) 369-0191 and inform the intake worker that you need "CaWORKS stage one or two childcare".

Sacramento county residents who are income eligible for free preschool Sacramento may apply directly to any Head Start subsidized/free pre school which is within your county. Head Start provides half day pre-school enrollments along with full day enrollments of free daycare for low income that may have a waiting list.
